Martin Luther King, Jr. – Cesar Chavez – Rosa Parks visiting professors program

Sec. 280. (1) Included in the appropriation for fiscal year 2025-2026 for each public university in section 236 is funding for the Martin Luther King, Jr. - Cesar Chavez - Rosa Parks visiting professors program, which is intended to increase the number of instructors in the classroom to provide role models for academically or economically disadvantaged students. Preference may not be given to participants on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, gender, or national origin. Public universities should encourage participation from those who would otherwise not adequately be represented in the student population. (2) The department of labor and economic opportunity shall administer the program described in this section. (3) The amount allocated to each public university is $11,184.00 and is subject to an award period of no more than 2 years. Each public university receiving funds for fiscal year 2025-2026 under this section shall report to the department of labor and economic opportunity by April 15, 2026 the amount of its unobligated and unexpended funds as of March 31, 2026 and a plan to expend the remaining funds by the end of the fiscal year. The amount of funding reported as not being expended may be transferred, under the direction of the department, to another public university for use under this section.
