Disease of the lungs or respiratory tract or disease of the heart or cardiovascular system, including carcinoma, may be recognized as occupational diseases for the purposes of chapter 287, and are defined to be disability due to exposure to smoke, gases, or inadequate oxygen, for peace officers certified pursuant to chapter 590, or any person assisting in the cleanup or disposal if a direct causal relationship is established to exposure to an illegal controlled substance manufacturing laboratory.
