The superintendent shall appoint from the membership of the patrol one lieutenant colonel and six majors, who shall have the same qualifications as the superintendent, and who may be relieved of the rank of lieutenant colonel or major, as the case may be, and the duties of the position by the superintendent at his pleasure.
