April nineteenth of every year shall be known and designated as "Patriots Day". It shall be a day on which to commemorate the day of the "shot heard 'round the world" and the beginning of the American Revolution. The teachers and students of the schools of this state shall observe the day with appropriate exercises. All citizens of this state are requested to devote some portion of patriots day to solemn contemplation on the selfless sacrifice made by those who fought and gave their lives for our nation's independence.
