(1) The state board of health is hereby designated as the state agency to administer a statewide radiation protection program consistent with the provisions of this chapter.
(2) There is hereby created and established the Mississippi Radiation Advisory Council as a separate division of the agency. It is made the duty of the council, and it is hereby granted the authority to: Advise the agency in the development of comprehensive policies and programs for the evaluation, determination and reduction of hazards associated with the use of radiation, and
(3) Assist in the formulation and approval of rules, regulations and standards relating to receipt, possession, use, transfer, ownership, acquisition, manufacture, production, transportation, handling, servicing, installation, storage, disposal, sale, lease or other disposition of sources of radiation as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this chapter. The recommendation of nationally recognized bodies in the field of radiation protection shall be taken into consideration in the formulation of such rules, regulations and standards.
