N.H. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 259:93

"Rural residence district" shall mean the territory contiguous to a way not comprising a business or urban residence district when the frontage on such way for a distance of 1/2 mile or more is mainly occupied by dwellings or by dwellings and buildings in use for business on any one side.
