N.H. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 277:33

For the purpose of inspecting establishments subject to this chapter, the commissioner may employ competent persons who shall be known as inspectors, one of whom shall be a woman, and shall fix their compensation in accordance with the state personnel regulations and within the limits of available appropriations and funds.
