N.H. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 303:4

All proprietary officers shall be inhabitants of the state, and whenever any officer ceases to be such inhabitant his office shall thereupon cease. The proprietors' clerk, for each town having 50 or more families, shall reside in the town.
