N.J. Stat. Ann. § 9:6-4

Jurisdiction of complaints

Known as the Department of Children and Families Act

The act spans §§ 9:10-1 to 9:7-7 (398 sections).

Complaints for violation of the provisions of this chapter may be made to the Superior Court or any municipal court. Whenever any person, who shall be charged with any such offense upon oath before any court or by indictment, shall, in writing signed by him and addressed to the county prosecutor of the county wherein the offense was committed, waive indictment and trial by jury, or trial by jury, as the case may be, and request to be tried immediately before the Superior Court without a jury, the county prosecutor shall report such fact to such court, which, unless it shall deem the public interest will be benefited by denying such request, shall with all due and reasonable speed, proceed to try the person so charged and determine and adjudge his guilt or innocence.
