§ 1401. Comptroller to maintain public record. The state comptroller\nshall maintain a public record of all names and last known addresses of\nthe person or persons appearing to be entitled to abandoned property,\nheretofore paid to the state or hereafter paid or delivered to the state\ncomptroller pursuant to this chapter. In addition, the state comptroller\nshall maintain a searchable database on the state comptroller's website\nin such form and manner as the state comptroller deems reasonable and\nappropriate, subject to the requirements set forth in section fourteen\nhundred two of this article. The state comptroller shall place a\ndisclaimer prominently on his or her website advising that this\nsearchable database does not contain complete information with respect\nto abandoned property paid to the state or paid or delivered to the\nstate comptroller, and provide contact information prominently on the\nwebsite to enable interested parties to inquire whether they appear on\nan abandoned property listing. Other identifying information set forth\nin any report or record made or delivered to the state comptroller shall\nbe retained by him but shall be considered confidential and may be\ndisclosed only in the discretion of the state comptroller. The state\ncomptroller shall not reveal the amount of any abandoned property,\nexcept to a person who has presented satisfactory proof of an interest\nin or title to such property.\n
