N.Y. Agric. & Mkts. Law § 215

Declaration of policy

2014-09-22

§ 215. Declaration of policy. Since nineteen hundred forty-five the\nlegislature has recognized the need for providing satisfactory\nnutritional levels in bread and flour. The legislature now finds that\nundernourishment still exists in a substantial number of families in\nthis state including, but not limited to, families whose diet is\nrestricted by economic, cultural, or social factors.\n In order to insure that these nutritional guarantees apply\nnotwithstanding cultural and other differences in dietary patterns, the\nlegislature hereby extends the authority of the commissioner of\nagriculture and markets to require the enrichment of food products, to\ninclude other staple foods such as rice, macaroni and noodle products.\n The legislature also finds that in the interest of public health, the\nstatutory enrichment program should be made more flexible in order to\ntake advantage of present and future developments in nutritional\nknowledge and food technology.\n
