§ 9. Attendance of witnesses; fees. 1. Witnesses shall be entitled to\nthe same fees as are allowed in civil cases in courts of record. Such\nfees need not be pre-paid, and shall be paid; (a) in the case of persons\nsubpoenaed by the state civil service commission, from the state\ntreasury on the audit and warrant of the comptroller upon vouchers\napproved by the president of the commission, or (b) in the case of\npersons subpoenaed by a municipal commission, in the manner provided by\nlaw for the payment of the lawful expenses of such municipal commission.\n 2. All public officers and their deputies and employees shall afford\nthe state civil service commission and any municipal civil service\ncommission all reasonable facilities in conducting the inquiries\nauthorized by this chapter, give inspection to such commission of all\nbooks, papers and documents belonging or in any way appertaining to\ntheir respective offices, produce said books and papers, and attend and\ntestify when required to do so by such commission.\n
