§ 819. Evidence-based mathematics instruction. 1. (a) On or before\nJanuary first, two thousand twenty-seven, the commissioner shall provide\nschool districts with instructional best practices for numeracy, as\ndefined by the commissioner, and the teaching of mathematics to students\nin kindergarten through grade five. Instructional best practices for\nnumeracy and the teaching of mathematics shall be evidence-based. Such\ninstructional best practices shall be periodically updated by the\ncommissioner.\n (b) Every school district shall annually review their curriculum and\ninstructional practices in the subject of mathematics for students in\nkindergarten through grade five to ensure that they align with the\nmathematics instructional best practices provided by the commissioner,\nand that all early mathematics instructional practices and interventions\nare part of an aligned plan designed to improve student mathematics\noutcomes in kindergarten through grade five.\n 2. On or before September first, two thousand twenty-seven, each\nschool district shall verify to the commissioner that its curriculum and\ninstructional practices in the subject of mathematics in kindergarten\nthrough grade five align with all of the elements of the instructional\nbest practices provided by the commissioner pursuant to this section.\n
