§ 28-c. Down's syndrome. 1. On and after the effective date of this\nsection, the term "mongolism" or "mongoloid" used as a synonym for the\ngenetic disorder known as Down's syndrome shall not be utilized in any\nstatute, local law, ordinance, charter, or rule or regulation\npromulgated or any publication published by the state or any political\nsubdivision thereof, and the term, Down's syndrome, shall be used in\nplace of "mongolism" or "mongoloid" when referring to such genetic\ndisorder.\n 2. Wherever the term "mongolism" or "mongoloid" appears in any such\nstatute, local law, ordinance, charter or rule or regulation or\npublication enacted, promulgated or published prior to the effective\ndate of this section such term shall be deemed to refer to the genetic\ndisorder known as Down's syndrome.\n 3. Whenever the term "mongolism" or "mongoloid" appears in any\npublication of the state or any political subdivision thereof published\nprior to the effective date of this section which is to be republished\non or after January first, nineteen hundred eighty-one such\nrepublication shall be made only after such terms are deleted.\n
