N.Y. Indian Law § 45

§ 45. The clerk. The clerk of each nation shall act as clerk at every\nannual or special meeting thereof, and in the meetings of the council of\nthe nation. He shall have the custody of all the books, papers and\nrecords belonging to such nation. The council of each nation shall\nfurnish the clerk thereof with a book, at the expense of the nation, in\nwhich he shall enter all proceedings and the results of all elections at\nevery annual or special meeting of such nation; and all orders, rules,\nregulations and certificates made or granted by the council of the\nnation, and if of the Tonawanda nation, the names of the chiefs thereof.\nEvery certificate, order or other matter certified by the clerk to be a\ntrue extract from his minutes shall be evidence thereof. The clerk shall\nreceive an annual salary of not exceeding fifty dollars, to be\ndetermined by the council. The clerk of the Tonawanda nation shall also\nact as clerk at all hearings before the peacemakers' courts, or any\nother tribunal established by law on their reservation, and shall enter\nin the record book of the peacemakers' courts all entries required to be\nmade therein.\n
