§ 140. Division of state into judicial districts. The state is hereby\ndivided into thirteen judicial districts, pursuant to the provisions of\nthe first section of the sixth article of the constitution, which\ndistricts shall be arranged as follows:\n The first judicial district shall consist of the county of New York;\n The second judicial district shall consist of the county of Kings;\n The third judicial district shall consist of the counties of Columbia,\nSullivan, Ulster, Greene, Albany, Schoharie and Rensselaer;\n The fourth judicial district shall consist of the counties of Warren,\nSaratoga, Washington, Essex, Franklin, Saint Lawrence, Clinton,\nMontgomery, Hamilton, Fulton and Schenectady;\n The fifth judicial district shall consist of the counties of Onondaga,\nOneida, Oswego, Herkimer, Jefferson and Lewis;\n The sixth judicial district shall consist of the counties of Otsego,\nDelaware, Madison, Chenango, Broome, Tioga, Chemung, Tompkins, Cortland\nand Schuyler;\n The seventh judicial district shall consist of the counties of\nLivingston, Wayne, Seneca, Yates, Ontario, Steuben, Monroe and Cayuga;\n The eighth judicial district shall consist of the counties of Erie,\nChautauqua, Cattaraugus, Orleans, Niagara, Genesee, Allegany and\nWyoming;\n The ninth judicial district shall consist of the counties of\nWestchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and Rockland;\n The tenth judicial district shall consist of the counties of Nassau\nand Suffolk.\n The eleventh judicial district shall consist of the county of Queens.\nThe creation of such eleventh district shall not affect or impair the\nrights, privileges or compensation of any officer or employee of the\nsupreme court in office on the first day of September, nineteen hundred\nand sixty-two in the tenth judicial district as theretofore constituted;\neach such officer or employee employed in the county of Queens on such\ndate shall thereafter be an officer or employee for the eleventh\njudicial district and each such officer or employee employed in the\ncounties of Nassau and Suffolk on such date shall thereafter be an\nofficer or employee for the tenth judicial district.\n The twelfth judicial district shall consist of the county of Bronx.\nThe creation of such twelfth district shall not affect or impair the\nrights, privileges or compensation of any officer or employee of the\nsupreme court in office on the first day of January, nineteen hundred\neighty-three in the first judicial district as theretofore constituted;\neach such officer or employee employed in the county of Bronx on such\ndate shall thereafter be an officer or employee for the twelfth judicial\ndistrict and each such officer or employee employed in the county of New\nYork on such date shall thereafter be an officer or employee for the\nfirst judicial district.\n The thirteenth judicial district shall consist of the county of\nRichmond. The creation of such thirteenth district shall not affect or\nimpair the rights, privileges or compensation of any officer or employee\nof the supreme court in office on the first day of January, two thousand\neight in the second judicial district as theretofore constituted; each\nsuch officer or employee employed in the county of Richmond on such date\nshall thereafter be an officer or employee for the thirteenth judicial\ndistrict and each such officer or employee employed in the county of\nKings on such date shall thereafter be an officer or employee for the\nsecond judicial district.\n
