§ 290. Stenographers are officers of court. Each stenographer,\nspecified in this chapter or the civil practice act, surrogate's court\nact, court of claims act or New York city civil court act is an officer\nof the court or courts, for or by which he is appointed. From and after\nthe first day of September, nineteen hundred and sixty-two,\nstenographers serving as such in the first judicial district who were\ntransferred thereto on that date from the court of general sessions of\nthe county of New York shall be deemed to be stenographers specified in\nthis chapter and subject to the provisions of this article nine.\n
