N.Y. Jud. Law § 342

§ 342. Duties of court officers, attendants and messengers of courts\nin Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau and Suffolk counties. Each of the\npersons appointed a court officer, attendant or messenger of the supreme\ncourt or county court of Kings, Queens or Richmond counties as\nprescribed in sections one hundred and sixty-eight and two hundred one\nof this chapter, must attend, from day to day, the terms and sittings,\nwithin his county, of the court to which he is assigned, to preserve\norder, and perform whatever services may be required of him, by the\njudge presiding thereat. The attendant or messenger of the supreme court\nin Nassau and Suffolk counties, respectively, appointed as prescribed by\nsection one hundred and sixty-eight of this chapter must attend, from\nday to day, the terms and sittings of the said court to which he is\nassigned by the justice or justices by whom he was appointed; to\npreserve order and perform whatever services may be required of him by\nthe judge presiding thereat; and shall attend at the chambers provided\nfor the justices of said court in said county and perform such other\nduties thereat, in addition to his duties as court attendant, as may be\nprescribed by the justice or justices sitting therein.\n
