N.Y. Jud. Law § 468

§ 468. Official registration of attorneys to be kept by the chief\nadministrator of the courts. 1. It shall be the duty of the chief\nadministrator of the courts to enter in a bound book or volume to be\nkept by him for that purpose, which shall be known and designated as and\nis hereby made the "official register of attorneys and\ncounsellors-at-law in the state of New York," the names and residences\nof attorneys newly admitted to practice in the alphabetical order of the\nfirst letter of their surnames, the title of the court and the time and\nplace where admitted. The said "official register of attorneys and\ncounsellors-at-law in the state of New York," is hereby declared to be a\npublic record and presumptive evidence that the individuals therein\nnamed were admitted to practice as attorneys and counsellors-at-law in\nthe courts of record of this state.\n 2. The chief administrator shall provide the public with information\ncontained in such official register. Upon request, the office of court\nadministration shall disclose whether a person is registered as an\nattorney as required by section four hundred sixty-eight-a of this\nchapter. Where the official register indicates that an attorney has\nresigned from the bar, or has been removed or suspended from practice by\nan appellate division of the supreme court and has not been readmitted\nto practice, that fact shall also be disclosed.\n
