N.Y. Railroad Law § 86

§ 86. Certain railroads need not be operated beyond June, July, August\nand September. Subject to the permission and approval of the\ncommissioner of transportation, any corporation, whose railroad is or\nshall be not longer than sixteen miles and is or shall be in large part\nintended for or used in summer travel for the convenience of summer\nsojourners need not operate its road beyond the months of June, July,\nAugust and September, inclusive. The motive power may be electricity. If\nthe road be not longer than ten miles, such corporation may fix and\ncollect fare for transporting each passenger, together with ordinary\nbaggage, if any, not to exceed fifteen cents for each mile and fraction\nthereof.\n
