Whoever corruptly gives, offers or promises any gift, gratuity or thing of value to any player, participant, coach, referee, umpire, official or any other person having authority in connection with the conducting of any amateur or professional athletic contest with the intent to influence the action, conduct, judgment, or decision of any such person in, or in connection with, such contest, or as a consideration for such person acting, playing or performing his functions in any such contest, in any manner calculated to affect the result thereof, or in consideration of such person failing to participate or engage in such contest, shall be deemed guilty of bribery, and upon conviction shall be guilty of a Class D1 felony offense punishable by imprisonment as provided for in subsections B through F of Section 20N of this title, or by a fine of not to exceed Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) and imprisonment in the county jail for not to exceed one (1) year.
