R.I. Gen. Laws § 27-74-4

Applicability and scope

Known as the Discount Medical Plan Organization Act

The act spans §§ 27–27 (18 sections).

(a) This chapter applies to all discount medical plan organizations doing business in or from this state.

(b) A discount medical plan organization that is a licensed health insurer or health maintenance organization or a nonprofit hospital and medical service corporation is not required to obtain a certificate of registration under § 27-74-5, except that any of its affiliates that operate as a discount medical plan organization in this state shall obtain a certificate of registration under § 27-74-5 and comply with all other provisions of this act; but such health insurer, health maintenance organization, or nonprofit hospital and medical service corporation is required to comply with §§ 27-74-8, 27-74-9, 27-74-10, and 27-74-11 and report, in the form and manner as the commissioner may require, any of the information described in § 27-74-13 that is not otherwise already reported.
