The director of the department of public safety or the director's designees shall assign deputy sheriffs to attend the general assembly when in session. The director of the department of public safety or the director's designee shall designate such number of deputy sheriffs to attend the session of the supreme court as the chief justice or presiding justice of the superior, district, family, and workers’ compensation courts may request and any such deputy sheriff shall be relieved of attendance at the request of the chief justice or the presiding justice of the applicable court.
