Offense of harboring or hiding a runaway child

Acts 2010, ch. 1099, § 1.

(1) A person commits an offense who, with knowledge that a child is a runaway, as defined in § 37-1-102(b)(32)(D), harbors or hides the child and: Fails to notify the child's legal custodian, legal guardian, or law enforcement authorities of the whereabouts of the child within a reasonable amount of time; provided, that no length of time in excess of twenty-four (24) hours shall be considered reasonable;

(2) Conceals the whereabouts of the child; or

(3) Aides the child in escaping from the custody of the child's legal custodian, legal guardian or law enforcement authorities.

(4) A violation of this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
