Tenn. Code Ann. § 68-211-608

Automobile batteries — Incineration or disposal — Lead-acid batteries — Trade-ins on retail sales

(1) It is illegal for any incinerator or landfill in the state of Tennessee to accept automobile batteries for incineration or disposal.

(2) When a retailer sells lead-acid batteries, the retailer shall accept used lead-acid batteries as trade-in batteries.

(3) For the purposes of this subsection (b), “retailer” does not include a person who sells articles of personal property of which a lead-acid battery is a component part.
