Certification of result of local action — Default deadline for action

(1) If any act which requires a notification of the secretary of state pursuant to § 8-3-205 provides a deadline for local approval or disapproval, within thirty (30) days after approval or disapproval it shall be the duty of the presiding officer of the local legislative body or the chair of the county election commission, as the case may be, to certify to the secretary of state whether the act was approved or disapproved.(b) If any act which requires a notification of the secretary of state pursuant to § 8-3-205 does not specify such a deadline, a failure to approve by December 1 of the year the act was passed shall render it null and void and of no effect whatsoever.
