First enacted in 1825 and reenacted many times since, the Assimilative Crimes Act adopts state criminal law as federal law for conduct on federal enclaves — military bases, national parks, federal buildings — that no federal statute otherwise punishes. It fills the gaps in the federal criminal code with the surrounding State’s offenses and penalties, and is codified at 18 U.S.C. § 13.
