The Declaration of Taking Act of 1931 lets the United States take title and possession in a condemnation case immediately, by filing a declaration of taking and depositing its estimate of just compensation with the court. The landowner litigates the amount afterward; the project proceeds. Recodified at 40 U.S.C. §§ 3114–3118.
