Illinois Commercial Feed Act
Illinois · Agriculture · §§ 505-30-1 to 505-30-9 · 20 sections
Overview
This act regulates the manufacture, labeling, and sale of commercial feeds for livestock and poultry, including packaged stock and poultry preparations. Before a feed may be sold, it must be registered with the state agriculture official — a statement and sample are filed, and every bag, package, or bulk lot must carry a label disclosing the product's guaranteed composition, subject to rules on how percentages are determined, an allowance for permitted analytical variation, and standard package weights; certain sales are prohibited outright, as is the use of poison-treated seed in feed manufacture. Enforcement runs through that official, who may inspect stocks and draw samples for chemical analysis, publish the results, refuse or cancel a registration, suspend sales or seize offending feed pending release, and refer violations for prosecution, with fees, fines, and a schedule of penalties funding and backing the program.
