Interstate Agreement on Detainers Act

Texas · CR · §§ 51.14 to 51.14 · 1 section

Overview

This act adopts an interstate compact on detainers — the holds one jurisdiction places on a person already imprisoned in another — and gives that agreement force as state law, providing for its enforcement among the participating jurisdictions. It sets out how temporary custody of an inmate is requested and transferred, including the notice a prisoner must receive of the rights available in response to such a request and the procedure for surrendering the inmate to the receiving authority. It also identifies which courts may act under the agreement, provides for a state officer designated to administer it, and treats escape by an inmate held under its provisions as a violation.
