In the civil and Scotch laws, a letter; one who lets; he who, being the owner of a thing, lets it out to another for hire or compensation.

In the land laws, one who locates land, or intends or is entitled to locate. A claim as " locator " signifies that portion of the land located, agreed to be given by the owner of the warrant, as compensation to the locator of it for his services.
