Dictionary of Terms and Phrases Used in American or English Jurisprudence
Any periodical payment for services. In English ecclesiastical law, it is particularly used for the income of an ecclesiastical living or curacy; and, in Scotland, to denote the provision made for the ministers of the Presbyterian establishment.
Stipendiary magistrates
A class of magistrates receiving salaries, who are appointed in London and other populous districts, and having powers generally commensurate with those of justices of the peace.
