! A contract by which goods are exchanged for goods. ^ The exchange of one commodity or article of property for another.^ The consideration, instead of being paid in money, as in the case of a sale, is paid in goods or merchandise susceptible of valuation.* An agent empowered to sell cannot barter; and the principal may recover from an innocent transferee.* See Exchange, 1; Sale.
