In fendal law. Conquest; acquisition by purchase; any method of acquiring the ownership of an estate other than by descent. Also an astate acquired otherwise than by inheritance. In international law. The acquisition of the sovereignty of a country by force of arms, exercised by an independent power which reduces the vanquished to the submissian of its empire.
