A Dictionary of Law
In the civil law. A sum paid by a new emphyteuta (q. v.) who acqtiires the enphyteusis, nob as heir, but as a singular successor, whether by gift, devise, exchange, or sale. It was a sum equal to the fiftieth part of the purchase money, paid ) to the dominus or proprietor for his aceeptance of thenewemphyteuta.
