Cedula

In Spanish Law. A written obligation, under private signature, by which a party acknowledges himself indebted to another in a certain sum, which he promises to pay on demand or on some fixed day. In order to obtain judgment on such an instrument, it is necessary that the party executing it should acknowledge it in open court, or that it be proved by two witnesses who saw its execution. The citation affixed to the door of an absconding offender, requiring him to appear before the tribunal where the accusation is pending.
