Pool

A small lake of standing water. By the grant of a pool, it is said both land and water will pass; Co. Gaming; Horse Race. A commercial term used to indicate a tract between two competing railroad panies, whereby they agree to divide their earnings over and above the amounts required for the payment of operating penses. See Restraint of Trade. As a business term the word “pool,” used in the phrase “real estate pool,” no more than that certain individuals engaged in dealing in real estate as a modity of traffic.
