In Ecclesiastical Law. The stipend granted to an ecclesiastic, in consideration of officiating in the church. It is in this distinguished from a canonicate, which is a mere title and may exist without stipend. The prebend may be a simple stipend, or a stipend with a dignity attached to it, in which case it has some jurisdiction belonging to it.
