In ecclesiastical law
The stipend granted to an ecclesiastic, in consideration of officiating in the church. It is in this distinguished from a "canonicate," which is a mere title, and may exist without stipend. The prebend may be a simple stipend, or a stipend with a dignity attached to it, in which case it has some jurisdiction belonging to it.

PREBENDARY (Lat. praebendarius, from praebenda). In English ecclesiastical law. One that has a prebend (g. v.) Cowell. The stipendiary of a cathedral or collegiate church.
