Commandery

Commandry, [Lat. jfro Bceptoria.] In English law. An establishment belonging to the priory of St. John of Jerusalem, consisting usually of a manor, or chief messuage, with lands and tenements appertaining thereto, under the government of an officer called a command^, who received a part of the income thence arising for his own use, and accounted for the rest.
