Commandery

or COMMANDRY (Lat. praeceptoria.) In English law. An establishment belonging to the priory of St. John of Jerusalem, consisting usually of a manor, or chief messuage, with lands and tenements appertaining thereto, under the government of an officer called a "commander," who received a part of the income thence arising for his own use, and accounted for the rest.
