Future Estate

An estate to which a person is entitled in futuro; an estate in expectancy.

Of expectancies, there are at the common law two sorts; one called a reversion, the other called a remainder. Id. ibid. In New-York, estates in expectancy have been divided into future estates and reversions; a future estate being defined "an estate commencing at a future day," or more fully, "an estate limited to commence in possession at a future day, either without the intervention of a precedent estate, or on the determination, by lapse of time or otherwise, of a precedent estate created at the same time."
