Conflict

Striking together; meeting in collision; opposition, as of authority, interest, jurisdiction, titles. Conflict of laws. Opposition of laws upon the same object; whether of the same or of different jurisdictions. As between different States, there is more or less disagreement in the laws relating to marriage and divorce, legitimacy, pending suits, judgments, intestate estates, assignments by insolvents, bills and notes, remedies, and some other subjects. The laws of each State affect all persons, property, contracts, acts and transactions within its boundaries. Foreign laws are allowed to bind foreign-made transactions unless they injuriously affect citizens, violate statutes, or are opposed to good morals or public policy. Realty is governed by the law of the place where it is situated; personalty, by the law of the owner's domicil.
