The Cyclopedic Law Dictionary
A title of courtesy given in England to the younger children of earls, and the children of viscounts and barons, and, collectively, to the house of commons. In America, the word is used as a title of courtesy for judges, members of congress, and other high officials, but without any distinct rule for its application.
