Lathe

or LATH (Law Lat. laestrum or leda). A division of certain counties in England, intermediate between a county or shire and a hundred, sometimes containing three or four hundreds, as in Kent and Sussex.

But in Sussex the word used for this division is "rape."

There was formerly a lathe reeve or bailiff in each lathe. Id. This division into lathes continues to the present day.
