Obligatio

Lat. In the civil and old English law. Obligation; a bond or writing obligatory. Obligatio est juris vinculum, quo necessitate astringimur ad aliquod dandum vel faciendum: obligation is a bond of law, by which we are necessarily bound to give or to do something.
