Ossineke is an unincorporated community in Sanborn Township, Alpena County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes. The population was 1,059 at the 2000 census. The community is located several miles south of Alpena on U.S. Highway 23. The name is derived from the Anishinaabe word zhingaabewasiniigigaabawaad meaning "Where the Image stones stood," though the modern Anishinaabe name for the place is asiniike meaning "to Quarry."
