A civil right is an enforceable right or privilege, which if interfered with by another gives rise to an action for injury. Examples of civil rights are freedom of speech, press, and assembly; the right to vote; freedom from involuntary servitude; and the right to equality in public places. Discrimination occurs when the civil rights of an individual are denied or interfered with because of their membership in a particular group or class. Statutes have been enacted to prevent discrimination based on race, sex, religion, age, previous condition of servitude, physical limitation, national origin, and in some instances sexual preference. Civil rights attorneys handle cases involving the rights of individuals to be free from unequal treatment (or discrimination) based on legally-protected characteristics such as race, gender, disability, national origin, age, sexual orientation, and religion. Teeds Grove is an unincorporated community in northeastern Clinton County, Iowa, United States. It lies at the intersection of Clinton County Routes E44 and Z50, north of the city of Clinton, the county seat of Clinton County. Its elevation is 692 feet (211 m). Teeds Grove's post office has a complicated history. Established on 6 January 1873, its name was changed to Teeds on 21 June 1883 and changed back to Teeds Grove on 8 July 1904. The post office was ultimately discontinued on 2 July 1965, when it was attached to the Clinton post office. Although its post office is gone, Teeds Grove retains its own ZIP Code, 52771.
