A civil right is an enforceable right or privilege, which if interfered with by another gives rise to an action for injury. Examples of civil rights are freedom of speech, press, and assembly; the right to vote; freedom from involuntary servitude; and the right to equality in public places. Discrimination occurs when the civil rights of an individual are denied or interfered with because of their membership in a particular group or class. Statutes have been enacted to prevent discrimination based on race, sex, religion, age, previous condition of servitude, physical limitation, national origin, and in some instances sexual preference. Civil rights attorneys handle cases involving the rights of individuals to be free from unequal treatment (or discrimination) based on legally-protected characteristics such as race, gender, disability, national origin, age, sexual orientation, and religion. Bristolville is an unincorporated community in central Bristol Township, Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 44402. It lies at the intersection of State Routes 45 and 88. The community is part of the Youngstown–Warren–Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. One of the more notable natives of Bristolville is John Henrie Kagi, who fought with John Brown in Bleeding Kansas. He was second in command on Brown's Harper's Ferry raid, where he was killed at the age of 24. Kagi's sister, Barbara Kagy Mayhew and her husband Allen Mayhew were Bristolville natives who migrated to Nebraska City, Nebraska. Their 1855 cabin there is now the Mayhew Cabin museum recognized by the National Park Service as a station on the Underground Railroad.
