Consumer protection refers to the laws designed to aid retail consumers of goods and services that have been improperly manufactured, delivered, performed, handled, or described. Such laws provide the retail consumer with additional protections and remedies not generally provided to merchants and others who engage in business transactions, on the premise that the consumers do not enjoy a sufficient bargaining position with respect to the businessmen with whom they deal and therefore should not be strictly limited by the legal rules that govern recovery for damages among businessmen. Bayside is an unincorporated community in Humboldt County, California. It is located 2.25 miles (3.6 km) south-southeast of Arcata, at an elevation of 33 feet (10 m). The ZIP Code is 95524. Bayside is located in the northern part of the state, along the coast, in Humboldt County. Though Bayside has its own post office, it was partially annexed into the City of Arcata. It is policed by Arcata police and the county sheriff. Bayside is home to many middle class families, mostly Caucasian. Most parents work away from the home, some at the nearby Humboldt State University or in the timber industry that exists in Northern California. Many children in Bayside attend Jacoby Creek Elementary School, a charter elementary school in the area. Bayside is surrounded by pastures and second growth forests and dotted with aging Victorian houses. The Bayside Grange (built 1941), a historical meeting hall for farmers in Bayside, is still used as an all-purpose hall for the community. Right across the street, is the original Jacoby Creek School building. Bayside is also home to Hank's Coffee Shop across the street from Jacoby Creek School. As you go up Jacoby Creek Road, the first left is now known as Baywood Heights, a private road and development. This used to be an old dirt logging road. Area teenagers frequented the property before it became a development. If you went to the top of the hill there was a pile of old growth redwood trunks you could stand on and look down the other side toward the Appleton's old ranch house. A common misconception is that the early '90s hit television show Saved by the Bell took place in Bayside, when in fact the show was set in Pacific Palisades, California, and the characters on the show attended the fictional Bayside High School. Also, Bayside High School is where the characters of That's So Raven go to school. The first people to settle in Bayside were members of the Quear family. (There is a large, dilapidated book in the Jacoby Creek Elementary School library that is an excellent history of the area, not just Bayside, and it contains more detailed facts. ) One of the main roads in Bayside is Golf Course Road, where a full size golf course greets you at the top after a beautiful walk. The first post office at Bayside opened in 1886.
